•Taraba State Commissioner of Police cutting the tape to mark the commissioning, today
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, today commissioned the permanent headquarters of the Taraba State Police Command in Jalingo, the state capital, marking the first purpose-built command headquarters in the state since its creation in 1991.
Disu, while commissioning the newly completed Taraba State Police Command Headquarters, expressed optimism that the permanent structure would strengthen security operations, improve officers’ welfare, and deepen police-community relations across the state, reports The PUNCH.
Represented by the Commissioner of Police, Taraba State Command, Moorkwap Dongshal Sebastine, the IGP said the facility would boost operational efficiency and contribute to peace, security, and development in the state.
He commended the federal government, the Taraba State government, the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, and other stakeholders whose support made the project possible, saying the headquarters reflected the commitment of the police leadership to providing a conducive working environment for officers and men of the force.
“The completion of this magnificent building is long overdue, considering that Taraba State was created in 1991. However, it is better late than never.
“This project stands as a testament to the determination of the Nigeria Police Force leadership to leave a lasting legacy and create an environment that will enable officers to discharge their duties effectively,” he said.
Disu stressed that the welfare of police personnel remained a priority, noting that motivated officers are better equipped to carry out their responsibilities professionally.
He added that the force would continue to improve working conditions through better office facilities, accommodation, healthcare, training opportunities, and other welfare initiatives.
He also urged officers and personnel to maintain the building and its facilities in order to preserve their value for future generations.
The IGP further called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, civil society organisations, the media, and members of the public to support the police with timely and credible intelligence, noting that effective policing requires collaboration between security agencies and communities.
In his remarks, Governor Agbu Kefas reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening security, saying peace, economic growth, social harmony, and sustainable development can only thrive in a secure environment.
Represented by the Commandant of Taraba Marshals, retired Commissioner of Police Abeh Cyril, the governor said the project was the product of collective efforts aimed at enhancing security infrastructure and improving the operational capacity of law enforcement agencies in the state.
He commended the Inspector-General of Police and the leadership of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund for facilitating the project, noting that the facility would provide a conducive working environment for officers and enhance operational efficiency, coordination, and service delivery.
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Alhaji Mohammed Sheidu, said the commissioning of the facility underscored the federal government’s commitment to strengthening security infrastructure and improving police welfare.
He commended President Bola Tinubu for prioritising security under the Renewed Hope Agenda and praised the IGP for his leadership, saying investment in security institutions is ultimately an investment in the safety and well-being of Nigerians.
