Former Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha has hailed the judiciary over a Federal High Court judgment in Abuja concerning the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial ticket for Imo West, describing the decision as a victory for democracy and the rule of law.
Okorocha, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media, Sam Onwuemeodo, today, said the judgment affirmed his position on the disputed APC ticket for the senatorial district.
According to the statement, the court granted all the reliefs sought by Okorocha, declared him the authentic APC candidate for Imo West Senatorial District and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to enlist his name.
Okorocha said the judgment had reinforced public confidence in the judiciary, describing the courts as the last hope of both the common man and the uncommon man.
He said: “This judgment, to say the least, is a resounding victory for the nation’s judiciary. It is a victory for the nation’s fast-growing democracy and the Constitution, as amended.”
The former governor also welcomed what he described as spontaneous jubilation across Imo State, particularly in Imo West Senatorial District, following the court’s decision, assuring supporters that their excitement would not be taken for granted.
Okorocha had approached the court over the dispute concerning who emerged as the APC candidate for Imo West Senatorial District.
The statement also said he had challenged the constitutional propriety of Governor Hope Uzodimma contesting the 2027 senatorial election while his tenure as governor would run until January 2028.
Onwuemeodo said the judgment also represented a victory for those committed to justice, constitutional governance and the interests of the people of Imo State, particularly residents of Imo West.
Okorocha thanked President Bola Tinubu for providing an enabling environment for the judiciary and other institutions to function, while commending the APC leadership for respecting members’ legitimate aspirations and constitutional rights.
He also appreciated Uzodimma, who was listed as a respondent in the case, and thanked Imo people for their prayers and support, giving glory to God for the outcome.
