Tension as Emir’s bodyguards smash glass door at wedding attended by Tinubu

The FrontierThe FrontierMay 7, 2025 2081 Minutes read0

•Emir of Katsina and Tinubu

A brief but tense moment unfolded during a high-profile wedding event hosted at the residence of Governor Dikko Radda in Katsina State at the weekend, when royal guards of the Emir of Katsina forcefully broke a glass door after being momentarily denied entry.

The wedding, attended by top dignitaries, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was brought to a pause when protocol officers, enforcing presidential security measures, temporarily shut access to the main event hall, reports Daily Trust.

This coincided with the arrival of the Emir of Katsina, Dr Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, who was greeted with a closed entrance.

A viral video obtained by our correspondent shows royal guards in traditional attire forcibly opening the door, smashing a glass panel in the process after what appeared to be a delay in allowing the monarch access.

The video, now circulating on social media, shows guests momentarily startled as shards of glass fell, while security and palace aides quickly stepped in to manage the commotion.

It was gathered that while the emir was later ushered into the hall without further incident, the broken door remains a metaphor for the rising tensions in managing overlapping spheres of power, monarchical prestige, gubernatorial hosting duties and presidential authority.

The wedding ceremony later continued smoothly, with President Tinubu, Governor Radda and other dignitaries offering their blessings to the newlywed couple.
