TRAGEDY: Rainstorm claims lives of grandmother, 4-year-old granddaughter

The FrontierThe FrontierJune 11, 2026 900 Minutes read0

A severe rainstorm yesterday morning claimed the lives of a 50-year-old woman and her four-year-old granddaughter in the Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi State, police officials confirmed.

The tragedy occurred around 10:00 a.m. on June 10, 2026, in Unguwar Katsinawa, Bara Village.

Hours of torrential rainfall and violent winds flattened residential buildings and washed away livestock, causing damages estimated in millions of naira, reports Daily Independent.

The Bauchi State Police Command identified the victims as Aisha Sagir, aged 50.Aisha Shuaibu, her four-year-old granddaughter.

Police Command spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib stated that the victims were caught in the open as the destructive weather front tore through the community.

Operatives from the Kirfi Police Division were immediately dispatched to stabilize the area and evaluate the structural damage. Initial assessments reveal widespread devastation, with multiple families displaced after losing homes and valuable assets to the floodwaters.

The Commissioner of Police extended condolences to the bereaved family and the Kirfi community, promising close collaboration with emergency response agencies to provide relief.

With the rainy season intensifying, authorities have urged local residents to exercise extreme caution during storms and promptly report flash floods or structural emergencies to security personnel.
