At least three policemen and a female suspect have been crushed to death as a truck driver rammed into a van carrying them at Ore, headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

It was learnt that the tragic incident occurred on Thursday when the driver of the articulated truck lost control of the wheels, crossed the median road, and hit the police van that was conveying the officers and the suspect, reports Daily Trust.

Police sources, who confirmed the accident yesterday, said the officers were part of the “monitoring unit” of the State Police Command tracking activities of high profile criminals.

One of the sources, who confined in our reporter, said that about six of the policemen had left Akure and were in transit to make an arrest in Ore when the accident occurred.

“Other officers in the vehicle who survived the accident were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment as they sustained different degrees of injuries,” he said.

Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the police spokesperson in the state, could not be reached for comments.

But Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), in the state, Samuel Ibitoye confirmed the accident, blaming the truck driver for overspeeding.

“The remains of the officers have been deposited at the morgue with the help of some good samaritains,” Ibitoye added.
