Truck falls off Lagos Bridge, lands on 2 buses

The FrontierThe FrontierApril 27, 2025 3511 Minutes read0

A fully loaded truck has fallen off a bridge and landed on two commercial buses in the Agege area of Lagos.

Our Correspondent learnt that the two vehicles were completely damaged in the accident that occurred around 11am yesterday, reports Sunday Trust.

Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority Response Unit (LRU) were at the scene.

General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, who confirmed the incident said the truck driver sustained severe injuries in the process.

Bakare-Oki explained that the accident which occurred along the Old Abeokuta Road, involved a fully loaded truck with registration number: GGE 624 YJ and two painted commercial Volkswagen buses.

He said preliminary investigations revealed that the truck driver, who suffered grievous fractures on both hands, lost control of the vehicle while navigating the Pen Cinema Bridge.

He said the truck plunged from the bridge and landed on two commercial buses stationed beneath.

“LASTMA Officers successfully extricated the severely injured driver and immediately entrusted him to officers of the Elere Police Division. He was subsequently conveyed to the General Hospital, Ile-Epo, for urgent medical intervention.

“In a bid to safeguard other road users and forestall secondary incidents, LASTMA personnel swiftly secured the accident site by cordoning off the area and diverting vehicular traffic.

“Thereafter, operatives of the LASEMA Response Unit promptly cleared the wreckage, thereby restoring traffic flow along the axis,” he added.

The General Manager of LASTMA also urged all motorists — particularly truck operators — to exhibit outmost care while driving, especially with the onset of the rainy season.
