•Lagos Otedola accident
Four passengers sustained multiple fractures in a road crash involving a Toyota Highlander and a commercial Mazda bus at Otedola Bridge, inward Berger, Lagos State, during the morning rush hour.
Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) rescued the injured passengers and evacuated them to the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre at Toll Gate for immediate medical attention, reports The Nation.
The collision occurred on the main carriageway near Jubilee Gate, causing concern along the busy transport corridor as motorists and commuters made their way through the area.
According to a Statement issued by Director of LASTMA’s Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department Adebayo Taofiq, LASTMA operatives mobilised to the scene, coordinated rescue efforts and managed traffic to prevent a secondary collision and ensure the safe evacuation of the victims.
Security personnel from the Isheri Police Division also provided security support during the rescue and recovery operations.
Following the incident, LASTMA apprehended the two drivers involved and handed them over to the police for investigation and possible prosecution.
The vehicles were also transferred to the appropriate security authorities to facilitate investigations into the cause of the crash.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the agency’s operatives, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), LASAMBUS personnel and the police for their prompt response and collaboration in managing the incident.
He said effective emergency response depended on rapid mobilisation and cooperation among relevant agencies, particularly along busy roads where delays could worsen the consequences of road crashes.
Bakare-Oki urged motorists to obey traffic regulations, maintain safe speeds and remain attentive while driving, stressing that preventable road crashes continued to pose a threat to lives and public safety.
He reaffirmed LASTMA’s commitment to strengthening emergency response operations, intensifying traffic surveillance and enforcing road safety regulations across Lagos State.
