Truck-load of military uniforms, illicit drugs, firearms, intercepted in Lagos

The FrontierThe FrontierJune 24, 2026 422 Minutes read0

•Firearms recovered by the Lagos Police Command and the intercepted truck carrying military camouflage uniforms

The Lagos State Police Command arrested 36 suspects and recovered about 8,000 pieces of military camouflage uniforms, firearms, suspected illicit drugs, and other exhibits during a series of intelligence-led operations carried out across the state in June 2026.

Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, disclosed the achievements during a press briefing held yesterday at the command’s headquarters, Ikeja, describing the operations as part of sustained efforts to combat armed robbery, cultism, vandalism, illegal possession of firearms, impersonation, and other criminal activities.

He said operatives recovered 14 firearms, four live cartridges, a MAN Diesel truck, 51 mobile phones, two vehicle engine control units (ECUs) popularly known as brain boxes, an operational motorcycle, vandalised electric cables, and 80 cartons of substances suspected to be illicit drugs, reports Daily Trust.

He revealed that one of the major breakthroughs recorded by the command was the interception of an unregistered MAN Diesel truck loaded with 47 sacks containing approximately 8,000 pieces of military camouflage uniforms allegedly being transported to the eastern part of the country.

“Three suspects identified as Chinedu David, Ezeagwu Chukwuma and Ifeanyi Ogbeanyi were arrested in connection with the seizure. The operation also led to the recovery of 80 cartons of substances suspected to be illicit drugs”, he said

CP Fatai further disclosed that preliminary investigations indicated that the truck was being used to convey the military camouflage uniforms to the eastern region, adding that efforts were ongoing to identify the source, ownership, intended recipients and other persons connected with the consignment.

“The command also recorded significant successes against violent crime, including the arrest of a suspect linked to a notorious “one-chance” robbery syndicate. Detectives recovered 51 mobile phones believed to have been stolen from victims during previous operations carried out by the gang.

“In another operation, police arrested two suspected cable vandals allegedly caught vandalising electrical installations on the Third Mainland Bridge, while a separate investigation in Ayetoro-Ijanikin led to the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of two double-barrel guns and six locally-made single-barrel firearms.

“Operatives further arrested suspects for unlawful possession of firearms at different locations across the state, recovering pistols, live cartridges and other weapons believed to have been used in criminal activities.

“The Command also arrested suspected cultists linked to the Eiye and Alora confraternities, recovering firearms and ammunition during the operations.

“In the area of immigration enforcement, the command rescued 38 foreign nationals from possible mob action in Epe. Preliminary investigations revealed that 20 of the individuals entered Nigeria illegally, while 18 possessed valid ECOWAS travel documents. The matter has since been referred to the Nigerian Immigration Service and relevant diplomatic missions for appropriate action”, he said.

CP Fatai said the successes recorded during the month underscore the effectiveness of intelligence-driven policing and reaffirm the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across Lagos State.
