Tsunami hits APC as 573 members defect to PDP

The FrontierThe FrontierAugust 2, 2025 3321 Minutes read0

About 573 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as opposition continues to strategise ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The 573 defectors who are from Sabuwar Dan Masara town in Dutse were presented to PDP top brass in a ceremony held yesterday, reports Saturday Guardian.

Speaking on behalf of the 573 defectors, Mustapha Adamu (Shugaba), said the decision to dump APC and align with PDP stemmed from their desire to seek a positive change, given the hardships in the country.

Mustapha expressed disappointment with the APC’s leadership and policies, blaming the ruling party for its lack of inclusivity and disregard for the needs of the people. He expressed confidence in the ability of PDP to offer a better platform for achieving their goals.

The defectors’ leader also lauded PDP’s commitment to progress and development, stating that the party’s vision for the future aligned with their aspirations, urging other APC members who shared their concerns to follow suit and join the PDP.

“We can no longer continue to be part of a party that has abandoned the principles of fairness and justice.

“We are convinced that the PDP is the party that truly cares about the welfare of Nigerians and will work tirelessly to address the challenges facing our state and country. We invite all like-minded individuals to join us in this journey towards a brighter future for our state and country. Together, we can achieve greatness,” he said.

The deputy Jigawa State chairman of the PDP, Umar Danjani, welcomed the new defectors and expressed his delight at the growing strength of the PDP in Jigawa State.

“Today marks a significant milestone in our journey towards building a stronger, more united party.

“We are thrilled to welcome our new members and look forward to working together towards a brighter future for our state,” he said.
