•Davido, Tems and Obi

Peter Obi and afrobeat star David Adeleke better known as Davido have hailed songstress Tems for her win at the 67th Academy Grammy Awards early today.

Tems whose real name is Temilade Openiyi claimed the ‘Best African Music Performance’ prize for her song ‘Love Me Jeje,’ seeing off competition from compatriots like Davido, Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, Lojay, and Burna Boy.

In his congratulatory message, Obi said he is “ever elated by the huge success Nigerian youths are making in various fields, especially in the entertainment sector”.

“I like therefore to extend my hearty congratulations to our Nigerian Afrobeats star, Tems @temsbaby, who just secured her second Grammy Award with her win in the Best African Music Performance category,” the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election wrote in a post on his X handle this morning.

Obi also congratulated other Nigerian artistes who were nominated for the Grammy Awards and believes the country’s creatives are putting “the nation on the global map”.

“I also rejoice with Nigeria’s entertainment industry and other Nigerian artists who were nominated for different awards in their respective categories,” Obi said.

“Undoubtedly, Nigeria remains home to the endless flow of talents who through their creative arts, continue to put the nation on the global map. I firmly remain committed to building a nation that fosters growth among the youths and helps them discover and harness their individual talents for national productivity.”

‘We Are Proud of You!’ – Davido

On his part, Davido wrote, “Congratulations to my one and only ! @chrisbrown! And to the Queen @temsbaby. We are proud of you!”

Today’s win is the second Grammy award for Tems. The singer recorded her first victory in 2023, scooping the ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ prize for her effort in ‘Wait for U’ – a 2022 song by Future featuring Drake.
