Wizkid to headline 2026 Detty December Fest

Grammy-winning Afrobeats star Wizkid will headline the opening night of Detty December Fest 2026, organisers have announced.

Wizkid is set to take the stage on December 18, marking the beginning of the 13-day festival of music, culture, food, fashion and entertainment in Lagos, which will run until December 30.

The festival, produced by entertainment company Livespot360, will introduce a second performance stage this year as part of an expanded programme.

Wizkid will headline the main Festival Stage, while the newly introduced Pulse Stage will provide a platform for emerging artists, new sounds and breakthrough talents shaping the future of African music.

Livespot360 co-founder and Chief Creative Officer, Darey Art Alade, said the addition of the second stage was aimed at reflecting the growing global influence of African music.

“African music has never been more influential globally, and we believe our festivals should reflect that ambition.

“The introduction of the Pulse Stage is particularly exciting because it gives the next generation of artists a platform to perform alongside some of the biggest names in music. That’s how ecosystems grow,” Alade said.

Additional headliners for the festival are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

The 2026 edition follows the official launch of Detty December Fest last year, which attracted thousands of festival goers and featured a mix of international and African music stars, including Busta Rhymes, Gunna, Shenseea, Tiwa Savage, Diamond Platnumz, Phyno, Wande Coal, Fave, Young John, Qing Madi, Ice Prince, Jux and Wizkid.

Wizkid’s appearance will also mark a return to the Detty December stage as the singer continues work on his highly anticipated seventh studio album.

The singer released the joint EP Real, Vol. 1 with Asake in January and has subsequently featured on collaborations with artistes including Vybz Kartel, Odeal and Jorja Smith.

He also collaborated with Tyla on “Dynamite” and Ayra Starr on “Gimme Dat”, with the latter earning a nomination for Best African Music Performance at the 2026 Grammy Awards.

Wizkid’s return comes after his 2025 tour in support of his 2024 album, Morayo, which reached No. 4 on the Billboard World Albums chart.

The festival’s expansion comes amid growing interest in Lagos’ annual Detty December celebrations, which have increasingly become a major attraction for visitors and the Nigerian diaspora during the festive season.

According to the MO Africa Company Detty December Report, Detty December festivities generated an estimated ₦396.5 billion in consumer spending across Lagos.

Ahead of last year’s celebrations, Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council also established a presidential task force on Detty December to coordinate inter-agency support and strengthen tourism during the festive period.

Detty December Fest 2026 is scheduled to take place in Lagos from December 18 to 30, with organisers promising a wider mix of music, culture and entertainment experiences.

Detty December is Nigeria’s premier cultural phenomenon and festive holiday season. It turns Lagos into the global capital of Afrobeats, nightlife, and massive street celebrations throughout December.
