Woman killed, others injured as truck rams into popular Ibadan market

•Road safety officials at an accident scene

A middle-aged woman lost her life today following a lone crash involving a truck with faulty brakes that rammed into the bustling Eleyele Market in Ibadan North Local Government Area, Oyo State.

The tragic incident left several others injured, with witnesses describing scenes of panic as people scampered to safety while the truck crushed its way through the popular market, reports The Nation.

Eyewitnesses reported that the DAF truck, loaded with granite, lost control as it approached the market from the Dugbe end. Despite the driver’s attempts to manoeuvre the vehicle, the brake failure rendered his efforts futile, leading to the devastating crash.

The injured victims are currently receiving medical treatment at local hospitals, while authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Confirming the incident, the chairman of Sango/Eleyele Motor Park, Olanrewaju Qazeem, and Iyaloja of Eleyele market, Chief Mrs Ramota Aare Ajobiare, said the incident occurred in the early hours of today.

They disclosed that one person died while several others were injured.

Also, the Public Relations Officer, Federal Road Safety Commission, Oyo Sector Command, Mayowa Odewo, confirmed that one person died while several others were injured in a lone crash in the Eleyele area.

Efforts to reach the police were futile at the time of filing the report.
