The High Court in Bauchi, Bauchi State, has sentenced Adamu AbdulRauf and Abdulkadir Wada to 35 years in jail for luring six-year-old Hauwa’u Ya’u to an uncompleted building and cutting off her genitals.
The crime happened three years ago in Jama’are Local Council.
In January 2021, Bauchi State Police Command had arrested the duo in connection with the crime and charged them to court, reports The Guardian.
Delivering judgment, Justice Rabi Umar convicted and sentenced AbdulRauf, 20, and Wada, 21, after they both pleaded guilty to the crime.
In his argument, the prosecuting lawyer, Sabiu Gumba, told the court that the defendants were arraigned on August 17, 2021 on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, and attempting to commit culpable homicide.
Gumba presented four witnesses, including the father of the victim, while the defendants testified for themselves but didn’t call witnesses. He tendered two knives used for committing the crime, a bottle containing the girl’s genitals, and a powdery substance.
It was earlier reported that Governor Bala Mohammed promised to offer her a scholarship, rename a building at the Bauchi Specialist Hospital after her, and pay fees for plastic surgery.
