2027 elections: Groups in ADC want Jonathan as presidential candidate

The FrontierThe FrontierAugust 30, 2025 1010 Minutes read0

•Former President Goodluck Jonathan

As the 2027 election year creeps nearer, different groups in the African Democratic Party (ADC) have stated that they want former President Goodluck Jonathan as their choice.

Jonathan has been touted by political jobbers into throwing his hat in the ring for the race for presidency, according to reports on the platforms of both All Peoples Congress (APC), The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and lately, the African Democratic Part(ADC).

ADC notable stalwarts were said to be comfortable with having Jonathan as their presidential candidate and had, in fact, reached out to him, reports Saturday Independent.

Jonathan’s only issue with the ADC is that “he does not want to contest against Peter Obi because he believes that the Igbo people supported him in 2015 even more than his own Ijaw people.”

Meanwhile, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that former President Goodluck Jonathan cannot defeat its candidate, Bola Tinubu, in the presidential election coming up in 2027.

The Lagos State chapter of the party said yesterday that it had observed with keen interest the growing speculations surrounding the possible return of former President Jonathan to the 2027 presidential race, and therefore made the submission.
