3 House of Reps members dump PDP for APC, give reasons

The FrontierThe FrontierMay 8, 2025 2711 Minutes read0

•House of representatives

Three members of the House of Representatives from Katsina State today announced their defection from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The lawmakers blamed deep-seated crises and leadership failures within the PDP for their defection, reports The Guardian.

The lawmakers were Salisu Yusuf Majigiri, representing Mashi/Dutsi federal constituency, Aliyu Iliyasu Ruma (Batsari/Safana/Danmusa), and Abdullahi Balarabe Dabai representing Bakori/Danja federal constituency, made their decision known in separate letters read during plenary by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.

This is coming two days after six lawmakers from Delta State dumped the PDP for the APC, while two lawmakers from Enugu State moved from the LP to the PDP.

Explaining their defection, the Katsina lawmakers pointed to what they described as irreconcilable differences and internal crisis within the PDP, both at the state and national levels.

They said PDP is suffering from a chronic crisis without a cure.

Their defection further depletes the ranks of the PDP in the Green Chamber while strengthening the numerical advantage of the APC.

According to Majigiri, “This decision has become necessary due to irreconcilable differences and the high level of chronic crisis without cure currently plaguing the PDP, which has adversely affected its ability to ensure cohesion and deliver on its mandate.”

The defectors lauded the leadership style of Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umar Radda, and President Bola Tinubu, whose governance approach, they said, influenced their decision to align with the APC.

“I am convinced by the exemplary leadership style of our governor, which is anchored on transparency, accountability, and people-oriented projects,” Ruma said.
