4 killed as minibus rams into stationary truck on highway

The FrontierThe FrontierOctober 28, 2025 922 Minutes read0

•Scene of the accident

Four people, including one male and three females, lost their lives when a minibus rammed into a faulty stationary truck along the Atan-Owode Road, Ogun State, yesterday.

It was learnt from the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, that the incident occurred at about 7:20 a.m.

According to Akinbiyi, the cement-laden truck had developed a fault and had parked on the road without putting up a caution notice, reports The PUNCH.

He noted that the minibus, which was conveying some passengers, did not notice the truck and rammed into it.

Akinbiyi stated, “A fatal road crash occurred at Alagbon along Atan-Owode Road, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State at about 07:20 hrs.

“The vehicles involved are a white Sinotruck with no number plate, and a Suzuki minibus with registration number KTU 874 YJ.

“According to an eyewitness, the Sinotruck loaded with cement broke down on the road without putting up a caution sign, and the minibus ran into it from the back, which led to the fatal accident.”

The impact of the collision was said to have led to four people’s deaths, while three others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

He noted that the injured victims were rescued and taken to the Owode General Hospital.

“Eleven people, including nine females and two males, were involved. Three people were injured, while four people, including one male adult, two female adults, and one female teenager, died in the accident.

“TRACE operatives were strategically positioned to manage traffic around the axis, while the injured victims had been taken to the General Hospital, Idiroko, by the FRSC before our arrival.

“Initially, traffic was affected but normalcy has been restored, and the accidented truck and minibus have been moved by the police for further investigation, while the presumed dead bodies were taken away by their families,” Akinbiyi concluded.

Road crashes continue to claim thousands of lives across Nigeria.

It was earlier reported that data from the Federal Road Safety Corps indicated that 3,433 persons were killed and 22,162 were injured in 6,858 reported road crashes between January and September 2025.

In January 2025, it was reported that five people escaped death in multiple accidents caused by excess speed and loss of control along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

These data underscore the persistent risk factors—such as faulty or unmarked vehicles, speeding, and breakdowns—behind many fatal collisions across the region.
