•Julian Brown
The whereabouts of Atlanta-based United States inventor Julian Brown have continued to raise concerns across the world.
The 21-year-old, who has built a strong online following for his innovative work turning plastic waste into fuel, has been silent on social media for over two weeks.
Brown last posted on Instagram on July 9, reports Nigerian Tribune.
In his final video on the platform, he stated that he was “certainly under attack” and urged his fans and well-wishers to remember him in their prayers.
In this article, our correspondent highlights six key facts about the missing inventor.
1. The Inventor of Plastoline
Julian Brown, in his 20s, is the creator of Plastoline, a device that converts plastic waste into usable fuels such as gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel. The machine employs microwave pyrolysis, a process that uses heat and pressure to break down plastics in the absence of oxygen.
2. Self-Taught Innovator
Brown is not a university-trained scientist or engineer. He is a self-taught inventor with welding certifications who spent five years developing his microwave pyrolysis technology, beginning in high school. He began learning welding at 17 and later obtained certifications in Stick, MIG, and TIG welding.
3. His Mission
Plastoline has the potential to revolutionise recycling and energy production. Tests conducted at a Washington lab indicated that the fuel produced by Plastoline may burn cleaner than regular diesel. Brown’s mission is to end plastic waste by transforming it into energy.
4. Viral Sensation
Brown rose to online prominence, amassing over 1.7 million followers on Instagram. He used his platform to showcase his invention and advocate for environmental sustainability. He is also the founder of NatureJab, a company focused on environmental solutions.
5. 776 Foundation Climate Fellow
Brown was selected as a 776 Foundation Climate Fellow, supported by Alexis Ohanian’s climate innovation programme. He also launched a GoFundMe campaign titled Plastic to Fuel – Together We Will Heal Earth, aiming to raise $1 million for the mass production of Plastoline. As of July 2025, the campaign had raised over $18,000.
6. Cryptic Disappearance
Brown has been missing for approximately two weeks, following a series of concerning social media posts. His last post included the message: “Something is happening, keep me in your prayers please. SCREEN RECORD THIS. I don’t know.” This has sparked growing speculation about his safety and well-being.
