•Gunmen

Once again, tragedy has struck Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State, with reports indicating that at least 16 individuals have lost their lives.

Suspected bandits, armed and dangerous, launched a brutal assault on several communities within the local government area last night, instilling fear and chaos, reports Nigerian Tribune.

This latest attack follows closely on the heels of a deadly incident where rival militia groups targeted Gbagir community in Ukum LGA of the state, resulting in the tragic loss of no fewer than 40 lives, a mere 24 hours earlier.

Sources from the communities said that the gunmen suspected to be armed herders stormed about 11 communities and killed several people and burnt down many houses.

When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer, Benue State Command, Catherine Anene promised to get details of the incident as soon as the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina who had gone to the troubled area returned.
