Estate surveyors chart new agenda as national confab begins today

•President of NIESV, Victor Alonge

The Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) is set to host its highly anticipated yearly national conference this week in Abuja, bringing together professionals, policymakers, investors, and academics.

Scheduled to run from today to the weekend, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as special guest of honour, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker, House of Representatives Hon. Abbas Tajudeen will be guest of honour, whileKeynote is Special Adviser to the President on Revenue & Chairman, FIRS, Dr Zaccheaus Adedeji.

The conference, themed, “Transform. Invest. Thrive: Optimising Real Estate Finance and Taxation” is expected to address some of the most pressing issues affecting Nigeria’s real estate sector, including fragmented taxation, limited access to financing, and the urgent need for institutional reform, reports The Guardian.

According to the organisers, this year’s theme reflects a strategic push to position real estate as a driver of economic growth and social transformation.

The President of NIESV, Mr Victor Alonge, said the conference will serve as a platform for bold ideas and actionable strategies. “It will serve as a pivotal platform for real estate practitioners, industry experts and critical stakeholders to come up with initiatives tailored towards redefining real estate practice and business for value delivery.

“This conference shall identify and explore grounds for the real estate industry’s transformation, opportunities to thrive maximally, and ultimately enhance government revenue through taxation.”

According to Alonge, the conference has been strategically designed to transcend our accustomed trajectory.

“More emphasis is on innovation, with a vibrant and sustainable development in view, even as we highlight and articulate options that enhance a thriving real estate business, while adapting to the ever-changing global business landscape, with its strong and pervasive inter-connectivity of businesses, markets and people. This conference is our moment to imagine, and to lay the groundwork for long-term economic stability and growth, benchmarking on real estate.”

Alonge said the conference would provide a platform for critical dialogue and practical reforms. “We are gathering at a time when Nigeria must rethink its approach to land, housing, and infrastructure. This conference will set the tone for what comes next.”
