JUST IN: Nigerian students demand removal of Mele Kyari, Adelabu over fuel crisis •Plan nationwide protest

The FrontierThe FrontierApril 30, 2024 2451 Minutes read0

Worried by the hardships Nigerians are going through due to the epileptic electricity distribution, high tariffs and the unresolved fuel crisis, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called for the removal of Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), and Honourable Adebayo Adelabu, the Minister for Power.

NANS announced that it has resolved to Mobilise for a nationwide protest on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 and appealed for the cooperation of other Nigerians, reports Daily Independent.

In a statement co-signed by

Dist. Senator Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, President of the Senate, NANS Headquarters, and leaders of its 5 zones, it lamented that it has become evident to Nigerians that the leaderships of both Kyari and Adelabu have contributed to the mismanagement and mishandling of vital energy resources that have further plunged the nation into turmoil.

Accordingly, the signatories resolved to embark on nationwide protest; Comrades Bilal Kurfi, Coordinator Zone A;

Daniel Egga, Coordinator Zone C (North Central), Alao John

Southwest Zone D; Chidi Nzekwe, Southeast Zone F and

Bappa Hassan Adam for Zone E, each zone will host the protest at designated points and time as approved by the association.

“To amplify our message and ensure widespread participation, we have strategically organised the protest to take place across various zones of the country. Each zone will host its demonstration at designated locations to maximize visibility and impact.

“Zone A: Abuja Junction along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.

Zone C: Airport Road in Abuja. Zone D along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Zone F along Onitsha-Asaba Head Bridge and Zone E along the Wuntin Dada- Bauchi-Jos Road.”

According to NANS, the resolve was a collective stand against the systemic failures and neglect that have perpetuated the cycle of hardship and suffering among the populace.

“We firmly believe that the removal of Mele Kyari and Honorable Adelabu is essential to address the root causes of the fuel scarcity and electricity crisis.

“We demand accountability, transparency, and decisive action from the government to alleviate the plight of the Nigeria students.

The statement added, “As students united in our resolve, we urge all Nigerians to join us in this protest and stand together in the fight for a brighter future for all.”
