Real Madrid target Chelsea duo

Reports suggest that Real Madrid are carefully monitoring Chelsea midfielders Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo as they assess their long-term squad planning.

Both players arrived at Stamford Bridge in high-profile deals in 2023, with Fernandez costing £100m from Benfica and Caicedo joining from Brighton for £107 million.

Since then, the pair have formed a strong partnership, helping Chelsea claim the FIFA Club World Cup this summer. Their blend of control and physicality has turned heads across Europe, and it is no surprise that Real Madrid have taken notice.

According to TBR Football’s Graeme Bailey, “Real are doing their due diligence on potential midfield options. They are constantly doing work on potential targets. Under Juni Calafat they have transformed their recruitment and their ability to make the right moves. The midfield department is something they are looking at.”

This is a period of transition for Los Blancos. The exits of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos have left a void in terms of experience and leadership.

While Fede Valverde continues to impress and young talents Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni provide energy and dynamism, there is recognition within the club hierarchy that additional depth is required.

Bailey added, “They are not worried but are concerned about their depth, and I am told that Fernandez and Caicedo are two players they love and are watching them regularly.”

For Real Madrid, targeting Chelsea’s pair is an acknowledgement of the quality that has been assembled in West London. Both players offer attributes that could seamlessly complement Madrid’s existing midfield options, with Fernandez known for his passing range and Caicedo for his defensive resilience.

The Spanish giants are also considering younger options such as PSG’s Joao Neves and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton. Yet the Premier League duo are regarded as proven at the highest level and would represent statement signings should Madrid move forward.

For Chelsea, such interest underlines the value of their midfield investments. Having paid significant sums, they now find their key performers linked with one of Europe’s most successful clubs.
