Bandits free murdered varsity lecturer’s children, kill another father in Katsina

•Bandits

Derrick and Caleb, the two children abducted when their father, Dr. Tiri Gyang, a lecturer at the Federal University Dutsinma, Katsina State, was killed by bandits at their residence, have been freed by the criminals.

A source revealed that the bandits initially demanded a N20 million ransom to release the children though the exact amount eventually paid remains unclear, reports Vanguard.

The source further revealed that after the ransom was paid, the bandits released only Caleb, the younger, then demanded two motorcycles and a N200,000 mobile recharge card to release Derrick, the elder of the two brothers.

Following the delivery of the requested items, Derrick was released on Sunday, the source disclosed.

It was gathered from associates of the late Dr. Tiri that preparations for his burial would soon be concluded following the release of his children.

Meanwhile, fresh details have emerged about the fate of Mallam Garba Funtua, the father of the female student, Aisha, who was kidnapped alongside Dr. Diri’s children.

It was gathered that Mallam Garba had taken the demanded ransom for his daughter’s release by himself.

Unfortunately, the bandits took him captive and released his daughter after collecting the ransom and later killed him.

Confirming the report, one of Garba’s sons disclosed on Facebook that his father was killed by the bandits after paying a N2 million ransom for Aisha’s release.

He explained that the bandits, who held their father captive, demanded an additional N5 million. Unknowingly to them, the bandits had killed him 17 days earlier, a day after they took him captive, as they later learnt.
