Governors Alex Otti of Abia State and Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State have announced a collaborative effort to improve the road infrastructure linking their states to foster both accessibility and stronger economic ties.

This partnership was cemented at the weekend during Gov Otti’s condolence visit to Gov Eno at Government House, Uyo, following the recent passing of Akwa Ibom’s First Lady, Pastor (Mrs.) Patience Eno, reports Daily Independent.

Governor Eno, speaking on behalf of his family and the people of Akwa Ibom, expressed gratitude for Gov Otti’s support during this period of mourning.

He acknowledged the logistical efforts made by the Abia State delegation and noted that the outpouring of condolences has been a significant source of comfort.

Reflecting on his late wife’s legacy, he highlighted her dedicated public service and the decision to have her eldest daughter, Helen Obareki, oversee the office of the First Lady to sustain her projects.

Eno also underscored the necessity of reliable road connections between the two states, emphasising the economic and social benefits.

He pledged Akwa Ibom’s commitment to partnering with Abia to expedite federal assistance on the Ikot Ekpene-Aba road and address critical portions of the Ini-Arochukwu road, ensuring these essential routes are accessible and well-maintained.

He noted the significance of Aba as a regional commercial hub, emphasising the shared benefits of a well-maintained transport network.

“For any road where our states can co-operate, we are prepared to work together,” Eno stated, underscoring the mutual interests that make this collaboration imperative for both governments and their people.

Otti, in his remarks, conveyed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Abia government and the people of Abia State.

He praised the late First Lady’s life of impact and influence, recognising the lasting contributions she made to Akwa Ibom.

Otti also applauded Eno’s ongoing projects, assuring him of Abia’s full cooperation in achieving the states’ joint infrastructure goals.

Additionally, Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Mohammed Maidugu, visited Government House, Uyo, offering condolences on behalf of the Nigerian High Commission.

He expressed the Commission’s sympathies over the passing of the First Lady while she was in the United Kingdom, reinforcing the support from Nigerians at home and abroad.
