TRAGEDY: Six SDP supporters die in road crash

The FrontierThe FrontierSeptember 16, 2026 151 Minutes read0

Six supporters of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Nasarawa State and former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, have died in a road accident in Lafia, the state capital.

The accident occurred on Monday on the Lafia flyover as the supporters were travelling to a political event in Awe Local Government Area, reports Daily Trust.

The Director of Media and Strategic Communications of the former IGP’s campaign organisation, Otaru Douglas, confirmed the accident to our correspondent, saying several other supporters were injured.

“Our prayer is that God will repose the souls of those who died and grant quick recovery to those who sustained varying degrees of injuries,” he said.

Adamu’s wife, Hajiya Rukayya, led a delegation to the homes of the deceased, where she condoled with their families and prayed for the repose of their souls.

The Nasarawa State government also expressed condolences to the SDP candidate and families of the victims.

The Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Nawani Aboki, described the incident as sad and urged political campaigners and motorists to exercise caution on the roads.

“It’s sad that we lost people in the accident. The government continues to mourn with the families. This is not about party; it’s about people, citizens of Nasarawa State,” he said.

Aboki urged political parties and their supporters to ensure safe driving during the campaign season.

The Nasarawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) also expressed sadness over the incident.

In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Augustine Ogaba, the party described the crash as a painful development and condoled with the victims’ families and SDP supporters.
