Supreme Court: NNPP organises prayer, warns Tinubu against interfering in Kano guber case

The New Nigerian Political Party (NNPP) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to influence the ongoing Kano Governorship Supreme Court case.

The party’s appeal was made yesterday during its Northwest zone’s special prayer organized to support Kano Governor, Abba Yusuf Kabir’s victory at the Supreme Court, reports The Guardian.

About 500 clerics who led prayers for Governor Yusuf urged the Supreme Court to rule in his favour. They emphasized that God was watching President Tinubu, drawing parallels with the history of the Second Democratic Republic, which faced military intervention due to high-handedness and dominating tactics of ruling political parties.

The Northwest Vice Chairman, Garu stressed that Kano residents seek the Supreme Court’s affirmation of Governor Yusuf’s victory. Addressing the recent unrest in Kano, he attributed it to the unfavorable judgment delivered at the Appeal Court.

“People know who they voted for and are confident in the election outcome. Abba Yusuf won. We await the Supreme Court’s decision. We urge our people to remain peaceful and calm; hence, our gathering here to pray for success,” he emphasized.

Speaking to journalists, the National Organizing Secretary of NNPP, Bala Yunusa Moh’d, highlighted the Supreme Court’s importance as the last hope for common citizens. He emphasized the need to avoid external influences that might sway the verdict in favor of a candidate who clearly lost the election.

“We gathered to pray for the Governor of Kano State, whose case is at the Supreme Court, seeking victory in the final stage of the court proceedings. Everyone should uphold their respective positions. The judiciary, executive, and legislators need to remain independent within their jurisdictions,” Moh’d emphasized.

He urged President Tinubu, as the head of the executive arm, not to interfere in the judiciary’s affairs, emphasizing the importance of allowing the judiciary to play its role and ensure justice.

Shortly after the prayer session, NNPP’s Northwest Vice Chairman, Garu, led party executives in a condolence visit to Tudun Biri community, where the Nigerian Army mistakenly bombed over 100 worshipers.
