Bride nabbed for allegedly poisoning guests at her wedding

The FrontierThe FrontierJanuary 4, 2025 3431 Minutes read0

The police in Jigawa State have arrested a bride after she allegedly poisoned the food served to guests at her wedding.

The incident, which occurred in Jahun Local Government Area of the state, was said to have claimed a guest’s life while the groom lay critically ill in the hospital, reports The Nation.

The identities of the groom and the deceased guest had not been disclosed at press time yesterday.

The bride’s action, according to eyewitnesses, might have been driven by a personal vendetta.

Media reports quoted the Public Relations Officer of the Jigawa State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, Shi’isu Adam, as saying that the matter was being investigated.

Adam said: “We received a report that the bride had tainted the food served at the wedding reception, leaving the groom critically ill.

“Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged food poisoning incident that occurred during a wedding ceremony in the state.”

He said the bride and another female were already in police custody and were being interrogated by the Criminal Investigation Department of the command.

“We will do everything in our power to ensure that justice is served,” Adam added.

The police spokesman said except for the deceased victim, all other guests who ate the poisoned food had been discharged from the hospital.

Adam said the command was investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and would provide more details as soon as possible.

“For now, we can confirm that the incident occurred, and we are working tirelessly to unravel the facts.

“We urge the public to remain calm and assured that justice will be served,” he said.
