Former Minister Ezekwesili, lawmaker clash at Senate hearing on sexual harassment

•Dr Oby Ezekwesili

The lawmaker representing Ebonyi North, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, and a former minister of education, Oby Ezekwesili, today, engaged in a heated argument at the National Assembly.

The clash occurred at the ethics committee hearing on the sexual harassment allegations levelled against the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, by suspended lawmaker representing Kogi Central, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, reports The Guardian.

During the exchange, Nwebonyi lashed out at Ezekwesili, saying, “You are an insult to womanhood.”

After the tension died, proceedings continued with the Senate Ethics Chairman, Neda Imasuen, presiding over the hearing.

The hearing was constituted when Akpoti-Uduaghan alleged that she was being punished by the Senate President because she refused his sexual advances.

Akpoti-Uduaghan said this days after a drama ensued between her and Akpabio over seating arrangements in the Senate chambers.

Her contribution at the plenary was ignored by Akpabio after she refused his directive for her to speak from the seat she was assigned to, which she claimed was unfavourably positioned.

She was then placed in the hands of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, for disciplinary review.
