•Scene of the accident

An accident that occurred at the weekend in Akure, Ondo State capital, has claimed the lives of three persons, among whom was a couple.

The fatal accident involving a truck and commercial tricycle occurred at the Itagbanja axis, Oke-Aro, along Idanre Road, Akure South Local Government Area, reports Sunday Guardian.

According to sources, the ghastly accident was caused by reckless driving on the part of the commercial tricyclist and the truck driver.

With the identities of the deceased persons yet to be ascertained as of press time, two of the victims died on the spot, while the

third victim reportedly gave up the ghost on the way to the hospital.

Meanwhile, the accident created tension in the area as youth and residents mobilised to attack the truck driver, but he managed to escape from the accident scene, after which he later turned himself in at the ‘B’ Division Police Station in Oke Aro.

The irate mob marched to the police station, hurling stones and demanding justice for the victims after news filtered in that the truck driver had turned himself in.

The corpses of the victims have since been deposited in the mortuary, even as investigations into the accident had commenced, as confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state.
