TRAGIC: Husband allegedly murders Governor Oborevwori’s aide on Easter Monday

The FrontierThe FrontierApril 21, 2025 1,1432 Minutes read0

•Late Love Shimite

The Special Adviser to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Trade and Export, Love Shimite is dead.

She passed away in the early hours of today Easter Monday after what sources described as a brief illness, reports The PUNCH.

The circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear as of the time of filing this report.

The social media has been agog all day as posts allege that the governor’s special adviser was murdered by her husband.

One of the posts on Whatsapp sighted by The Frontier today read:

“Who remembers her? Shimite used to present the program, African Pot on NTA. Husband don Kpai her.

“#leavetolive una no go hear. Always staying regardless just because of what society will say.”

Continuing, the posts stated:

“The Special Adviser to the Governor of Delta State on Trade and Export, Chief (Mrs.) Shimite Winifred Bello Is Dead, Allegedly Died As A Result Of Domestic Violence

“The Special Adviser to the Governor of Delta State on Trade and Export, Chief (Mrs.) Shimite Winifred Bello, has passed away. The renowned Trade and Economic expert allegedly d!ed as a result of domestic violence.

“Human rights activist and Delta State Governor’s aide, Harrison Gwamnishu, confirmed the sad news in a Facebook post on Monday, April 21, 2025.

Another Delta human rights activist, Comrade Victor Ojie, popularly known as Wong Box, also confirmed the development.

“Marriage is not by force oh. It’s better to lose your marriage than to lose your life oh,” Ojie wrote.

“A Facebook user, Hon. Oge Okonkwo reported that Shimite’s husband has been arrested for her d3ath.

Shimite’s aide, Tameta Sunday, also confirmed her death, alleging that Shimite’s husband k!lled her.

“It’s very difficult to type RIP boss, knowing fully well an ugly soul called pastor with a gentle look as a husband cut all the positive plans we had together,” his post partly reads.

“Late Shimitte was the Coordinator of the Delta State UNIDO Centre. She was the focal person for the implementation of the Federal Government’s Social Investment Programme in Delta State. She produced and presented “African Pot”, a TV documentary that promoted traditional African cuisine, tourism and culture.

“The deceased was a member of the Steering Committee of USAID/NEXTT (Nigerian Expanded Trade and Transport) – Lakaji Trade Corridor.  She was a member of the Board of Directors of FESECA – Foundation for Economic Change in Africa.”

However, confirming the death, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, Mr. Bright Edafe, said Shimite was confirmed dead at the hospital where she was taken.

Edafe also revealed that her husband has been placed in protective custody, not under arrest, following threats reportedly made against him.

Edafe said, “He (the husband) was the one who called to report that his wife died early this morning and that he was receiving threats from her family, who feared he might be attacked. It was on this basis that we went to his house and brought him in for his own safety.”

However, Edafe disclosed that the deceased’s family later lodged a formal complaint with the police, expressing suspicion that the husband may have had a role in her death.

He added: “We are currently investigating. In situations like this, only an autopsy can determine whether the death was natural or due to other causes.”

The police say further updates will follow as investigations progress.
