The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has approved the appointment of Babatunde Adejumo as the new administrator of the National Judicial Institute (NJI).

In a statement yesterday, Tobi Soniyi, senior special assistant on media to the CJN, said Adejumo’s appointment takes effect from August 1.

Adejumo, a former president of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN), was endorsed by the NJI board of governors, chaired by Kekere-Ekun, reports The Nation.

His appointment, according to the board, is expected to strengthen the institute’s efforts in promoting judicial capacity development and institutional innovation.

Soniyi noted that Adejumo’s experience and deep understanding of judicial administration are qualities that would enhance the NJI’s strategic objectives.

He succeeds Salisu Garba Abdullahi, whose four-year tenure as administrator will end on July 31.

Kekere-Ekun expressed appreciation to the outgoing administrator for his dedicated service and significant contributions to the growth of the institute and the Nigerian judiciary.

Adejumo served as president of the NICN until his retirement in 2019.

While piloting the affairs of NICN, the court went through noticeable transformation in many fronts including capacity, procedural, law and infrastructural development among others.

It was under his leadership that the industrial court moved from its former office located at Oju-Olobun, Victory Island, Lagos, to its impressive and gigantic complex at Lugard Avenue, Ikoyi, Lagos.

The NJI is Nigeria’s apex institution for the continuing education, training, and development of judicial officers and their support staff.

It aims to promote efficiency, consistency, and excellence in judicial service delivery through a range of professional development programmes aligned with global best practices.
