Ahead 2027: More defections hit APC as members join ADC coalition

The FrontierThe FrontierSeptember 1, 2025 1721 Minutes read0

The African Democratic Congress (ADC)-led coalition in Sokoto has recorded a major breakthrough ahead of the 2027 general elections, following the defection of hundreds of supporters from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defectors, operating under the umbrella of the Soja Mobilization Forum, a network of more than one hundred political groups, formally announced their decision to leave the APC and join forces with the ADC-led coalition, reports Nigerian Tribune.

At a reception ceremony to welcome the new members, the Forum’s Chairman, Alhaji Sani Abdullahi, accused the APC of plunging Nigerians into widespread hardship, unemployment, and poverty.

“The APC has brought nothing to Nigerians except suffering and despair. Our people deserve a party and a coalition that truly represent their hopes and aspirations. That is why we have chosen to align with the ADC,” Abdullahi said.

Receiving the defectors, Hon. A.A. Gumbi, a 2023 governorship aspirant and one of the coalition’s leaders in Sokoto, assured them of full integration into the coalition’s structures and decision-making organs.

“Your decision is not just about numbers; it is a bold statement that the people of Sokoto are ready for a new political direction. You will be fully carried along in all activities of the coalition,” he pledged.

The mass defection, described by political observers as a “tsunami,” is being viewed as a serious blow to the APC in Sokoto and a sign of shifting political loyalties ahead of the next election cycle.

Analysts believe the growing strength of the ADC coalition could significantly alter the state’s political landscape by 2027.

With the Soja Mobilisation Forum and its affiliates active across Sokoto South, Sokoto North, Wamakko, Gwadabawa, and other local government areas, the ADC coalition appears to be consolidating its base and positioning itself as a formidable challenger to the ruling party’s dominance in the state.
