7,000 Christians murdered in Nigeria this year – U.S. lawmaker insists, counters FG on genocide claim

Despite the counter statements from the presidency on the alleged Christian genocide in Nigeria, a member of the U.S. Congress, Rep Riley M. Moore has insisted that about 7,000 Christians have been killed across the country this year.

In an interview with Fox News, the lawmaker described the alleged genocide as a tragedy saying “it has been going on for decades without anyone talking about it”.

Recall that Rep Moore and Senator Ted Cruz recently called for the designation of Nigeria as Country of Particular Concerns, CPC over the alleged massacre of Christians in Nigeria, reports The Guardian.

But presidential media aide, Daniel Bwala, had on different occasions dismissed the claim, insisting that the security crisis in the country does not target a particular religion.

However, in his recent interview with Fox News, Rep Moore insisted that about 35 Nigerian Christians are “murdered per day”.

“7,000 Christians have been murdered in Nigeria this year. That’s 35 Christians murdered per day. It’s a tragedy that cannot be ignored any longer”.

“That’s why I sent a letter to @SecRubio to redesignate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern.

“It’s time we took a stand to defend our brothers and sisters in Christ”, he said.
