PDP suspends Rivers chairman for supporting Wike

The FrontierThe FrontierJanuary 4, 2026 1072 Minutes read0

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has suspended its Caretaker Committee Chairman, Robinson Ewor, for declaring support for the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Ewor had on Friday accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of deceiving party leaders and supporters during the political crisis in the state, reports Sunday Trust.

He told newsmen in Port Harcourt during a press briefing that Governor Fubara falsely created impression that he could take over the political control of the state from Wike, only to later abandon the party at the height of the turmoil.

He also alleged that party stakeholders were misled into believing the governor was prepared for a showdown with Wike, saying its leaders were left stranded “in the middle of a political sea” when Fubara defected to APC early December 2025.

But PDP leadership in the state said that Ewor had been suspended both as Caretaker Chairman and as a member of the PDP, saying his actions were capable of destroying the party in the state.

The Secretary of the Caretaker Committee of the party in the state, Mr Ogbam Ojimah, who has assumed the position of caretaker chairman of the party, pledged the loyalty of the state exco to the Turaki-led PDP.

Speaking during the party’s caretaker committee emergency meeting in Port Harcourt, the state capital yesterday, Ojimah stated that the FCT Minister remained expelled from the party.

He said that by his suspension, Ewor had relinquished his position for associating with Wike, who was recently expelled from the party.

He said that the FCT minister had no right to interfere in the party’s affairs, adding that the party in the state had distanced itself from all activities and recent utterances made by Ewor.

He said: “The Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, Rivers State Chapter, after our meeting here today, the 3rd of January, 2026, hereby resolved as follows: that we disassociate ourselves from the press statement and public utterances credited to Dr Nname Robinson Ewor, the former Chairman.

“That it is important to re-emphasise and remind the general public that Hon. Nyesom Wike has already been expelled from our party and therefore has no right to interfere in the affairs of the PDP.

“That Dr Nname Robinson Ewor, by his actions and speeches, has voluntarily resigned and relieved himself of the position of Caretaker Chairman of the PDP, Rivers State; and that the Caretaker Committee hereby formally suspends Dr Nname Robinson Ewor as Chairman and member of the Caretaker Committee of the PDP, Rivers State. Hence, nobody should deal with him in that capacity.

“That the Caretaker Committee of the PDP, Rivers State, hereby resolves and unanimously appoints the Secretary, Chief Ogbam Ojimah, as the Acting Chairman, and Dr Baribefu Fidunko as the Acting Secretary of the PDP, Rivers State.

“That we remain committed and focused on repositioning our party for competitive electioneering and service to the people under the leadership of Dr Kabiru Turaki, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party.”
