ROMANCE GONE SOUR: I got my husband arrested by the police after he punched me till I bled

The FrontierThe FrontierJune 14, 2025 2231 Minutes read0

Grade A Customary Court sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has adjourned for further hearing the divorce suit brought before it by a woman, Shekinat, against her husband, Ahmed, whom she accused of neglect, battery, and rudeness to her parents.

Shekinat, in addition to the divorce, also prayed the court for their children’s custody, reports Saturday Tribune .

She further entreated the court to mandate her husband to be responsible for their children’s upkeep.

Ahmed, in his response, denied all the allegations brought against him, but agreed that their union should be dissolved.

Shekinat, in her evidence, said: “My husband is wicked and cruel. He took to beating me early in our marriage.

“My husband and I hardly ever sat to discuss or laugh over issues. He never saw sense in whatever I said.

“He gets easily provoked. And when he is in such state, he would pounce on me and beat me to a pulp.

“The last time we had a misunderstanding, he punched me and refused to release me until my face and whole body were soaked in blood.

“I got him arrested by the police and he was kept in their custody for days.

“My husband, rather than be remorseful, insulted my father when he warned him to desist from beating me.

“My husband has consistently failed in his responsibility towards our children.

“He is indifferent to their welfare and especially their training in school.

“I bear the brunt of his responsibility in the home, but his best way of appreciating me is by punching me and leaving me covered with blood.

“My lord, I pray this honourable court to end our relationship before he sniffs life out of me.”

The court president, Mrs S.M Akintayo, adjourned the case for further hearing.
