World Trade Organisation boss Okonjo-Iweala warns Nigerians over AI-manipulated fake video

The FrontierThe FrontierFebruary 11, 2026 690 Minutes read0

Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala

The Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has cautioned Nigerians against a fake, AI-manipulated video circulating online that falsely features her image.

In a post on X, she clarified that the video is not authentic and disclosed that the matter has been referred to the appropriate authorities for necessary action.

Okonjo-Iweala stressed that she does not operate social media accounts on Instagram, Facebook, or WhatsApp, warning that any content shared on those platforms in her name is fraudulent.

She urged members of the public to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to deception, reiterating that X, formerly known as Twitter, is the only platform on which she maintains an official presence.

“Just alerting Nigerians. Another fake AI-manipulated video. The authorities are handling. Just wanted to alert you to be aware of this. As I repeatedly said, I never post anything on Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp. Anything emanating from these sources with my image is not from me. I only post on Twitter/X. I just don’t want people to be duped”, she wrote.

Her warning comes amid the growing concerns over AI-generated deepfake videos and impersonation scams targeting public figures and citizens.
