Morocco welcomes US-Iran ceasefire agreement

The FrontierThe FrontierApril 9, 2026 491 Minutes read0

The Kingdom of Morocco has welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates said in a statement yesterday.

According to the statement, “The Kingdom of Morocco supports the forthcoming negotiations with Pakistani facilitation and hopes that these negotiations will lead to lasting peace, strengthen stability in the region, and take into account the higher interests of the brotherly Arab countries of the Gulf.”

The Kingdom of Morocco stresses the importance of ensuring navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, in accordance with international maritime law.

Iran and the US have agreed to a two-week ceasefire, and talks to finalise a peace deal will begin in Pakistan today.

The decision comes with pledges for the resumption of operations in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints.

The EU and UN also welcomed the truce, as did other countries.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres called on all parties to respect the ceasefire to “pave the way toward a lasting and comprehensive peace in the region.”

Gulf countries also welcomed the ceasefire, hoping it could lead to a permanent settlement.
