JAMB conducts UTME for over 2.2 million candidates across Nigeria

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) yesterday, commenced the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), enlisting over 2.2 million candidates to sit for the weeklong examination, across the country.

This year’s UTME comes after an earlier Mock examination to enable candidates get used to the Computer Based Test (CBT) process for the annual examination into tertiary institutions, reports Daily Independent.

Following glitches encountered during the conduct of last year’s UTME, JAMB has taken a number of steps to avoid a repeat, by carefully sequencing the dates, logistics, and policy adjustments.

As stated above, the recent mock exercise culminated in 23 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres getting delisted by JAMB for failing to meet performance standards.

Also, no fewer than 11 technical officers were removed from the exercise due to poor performance.

For this year’s exercise, the Board deliberately spread the examination over seven days to accommodate or give flexibility to teaming candidates and enable CBT centres becoming overburdened or compromising the integrity of the process.
