Senator Abbo petitions NJC to withdraw Justice Chioma’s nomination to Supreme Court

The FrontierThe FrontierJanuary 31, 2024 4731 Minutes read0

•Justice Chioma Nwosu-Iheme

For alleged miscarriage of justice, Senator Elisha Abbo, today in Abuja asked President Bola Tinubu to withdraw the nomination of Justice Chioma Nwosu-Iheme as a Supreme Court Justice.

Justice Nwosu-Iheme was among the 11 Justices from the Court of Appeal nominated for vacant seats at the Supreme Court by President Bola Tinubu in December last year as recommended by the National Judicial Council and later confirmed by the Senate, reports The Guardian.

But a few days before the inauguration of Justice Chioma Nwosu-Iheme and 10 others as Supreme Court Justices by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kayode Ariwoola, Abbo called on President Bola Tinubu to withdraw her nomination.

Abbo represented Adamawa North Senatorial District in the 9th Senate and lost his bid to return to the Senate at the Court of Appeal last year when his election was upturned through a lead judgement by Justice Nwosu-Iheme.

He said that the alleged miscarriage of justice carried out against him by Justice Chioma Nwosu-Iheme was also done by some other Justices of the Court of Appeal against targeted elected lawmakers and Governors some of which were later upturned by the Supreme Court

“The kernel of my submission at this press conference is that the appointment of Justice Chioma Nwosu-Iheme into the Supreme Court is not good for our judicial system and dispensation of Justice. Senator Elisha -Abbot insisted.

“Justice Chioma Nwosu-Iheme is among some Justices in the country , carrying out judicial coup against democracy in Nigeria. Justices like her should not be allowed to get to the Supreme Court.

“President Bola Tinubu should please in line with his renewed hope mantra, terminate the appointment of Justice Chioma Nwosu – Iheme into the Supreme Court to save our judiciary from Judicial bandits.

The former lawmaker said he has filed a petition against Justice Nwosu-Iheme at the National Judicial Council (NJC).

“For required punishment and deterrence, I have filed petitions against Justice Chioma Nwosu – Iheme, Justice Olabode Adegbehingbe and Justice Muhammad Ibrahim Sirajo , to the National Judicial Council and Chief Justice of Nigeria ( CJN) , over their judgement in the electoral case between me and Reverend Amos Kumai of the PDP,” Abbo said.
