2027: Governor Makinde picks preferred successor

•Bimbo Adekanmbi

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has reportedly identified a former Commissioner for Finance under the late former governor Abiola Ajimobi, Bimbo Adekanmbi as his preferred successor ahead of the 2027 governorship election in the state.

The development was confirmed last night by the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State, Michael Ogunshina, during a telephone conversation with journalists.

The reported endorsement has already generated fresh reactions within political circles in the ruling PDP as well as among opposition parties in the state.

Sources within the party disclosed that the decision emerged following a series of high-level consultations involving prominent stakeholders and political allies of the governor.

Although Governor Makinde has yet to make any official public declaration on the matter, Ogunshina confirmed that the governor had settled for Bimbo Adekanmbi as his preferred candidate.

“Yes, it is confirmed. The governor has announced him,” Ogunshina said.
