The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, will chair discussions on the achievements, reforms and challenges of Nigeria’s educational sector under President Bola Tinubu at the 2026 Education Summit.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Chairman of the Education Correspondents Association of Nigeria (ECAN), Mr Chux Ukwuatu, today in Abuja.
The summit is scheduled for Wednesday, July 15 in Abuja, with the theme: “Three Years of the Tinubu Administration: Assessing Reforms, Progress, and Challenges in Nigeria’s Education Sector.”
Ukwuatu said that the summit would promote informed policy dialogue and strengthen collaboration among key stakeholders committed to educational development.
He said the event would bring together policymakers, education experts, academics, development partners, school administrators, researchers, civil society organisations, student representatives and media professionals from across the country.
According to him, the gathering will provide a strategic platform for stakeholders to evaluate the impact of the Tinubu administration’s education reforms and identify practical solutions to persistent challenges confronting the sector.
Ukwuatu said participants would also examine major reforms introduced by the federal government, assess implementation progress and recommend innovative strategies for improving access, quality and equity across all levels of education.
He added that the Minister of Education would declare the summit open and lead discussions on the administration’s education agenda, highlighting milestones recorded and areas requiring sustained attention.
The chairman noted that representatives of government agencies, tertiary institutions, professional bodies, development partners and the media would contribute perspectives aimed at strengthening policy implementation and institutional performance.
He said the summit would also feature an award ceremony recognising individuals and institutions that have demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation and commitment to advancing education and human capital development in Nigeria.
He listed those to be honoured to include: the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa; Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu; Executive Secretary of TETFund, Sonny Echono; and NECO Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi.
Also expected to receive awards are the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, alongside other distinguished personalities for their contributions to educational transformation.
Ukwuatu stated that the awards recognise visionary leadership, institutional reforms, commitment to quality education and sustained efforts toward strengthening Nigeria’s education system in line with national development priorities.
He expressed optimism that the summit would generate actionable recommendations, deepen stakeholder engagement and reinforce ongoing efforts to build a more inclusive, resilient and globally competitive education sector in Nigeria.
