A week after midair crash killed 67 persons, two planes collide at airport taxi lane

•Scene of the incident

A Delta Airlines plane and a Japan Airlines plane have collided on the ground at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), prompting an emergency response from airport officials.

The incident occurred just after 10:15 a.m. local time yesterday on a ramp along a taxi lane between S Concourse and the airport’s south maintenance hangars, according to SEA.

In a statement posted on X, the airport said the collision involved a taxiing Japan Airlines aircraft “that appears to have struck” the tail of a parked Delta Airlines plane.

Emergency crews, including Port of Seattle Fire, police, and SEA operations, responded immediately. Officials confirmed that all passengers were safely deplaned and transported to the terminal without any reported injuries.

“All passengers from [the] incident involving Japan Airlines flight 68 & Delta Air Lines flight 1921 have been deplaned [with] no reported injuries,” SEA said in a statement.

“Airlines are working to accommodate passengers as needed. Airport response crews will be moving the aircraft off of the ramp taxiway.”

SEA advised travellers to check with their airlines for any potential disruptions but stated that the collision had “minimal impact to airport operations as this occurred on a taxi lane.”

The incident comes exactly one week after a midair crash near Washington, D.C., between a passenger plane and an Army Black Hawk helicopter that killed 67 people.
