Afrobeats sensation, Davido pulls out of London show over dispute with organiser

Nigerian music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has announced his withdrawal from the much-anticipated Timeless Concert scheduled to hold at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on July 3.

The singer, in a statement posted via his Instagram story yesterday, cited unresolved issues and “major misalignments” with the organisers, The Necto Future Group and Iconic Presents, as the reason for backing out.

Davido explained that although he had given his full support and professionalism in preparation for the event, some key elements required to uphold the standard of his performance were not met.

“Despite strong fan support and impressive ticket sales, there have been major misalignments regarding the event’s execution,” he wrote. “Unfortunately, these issues remain unresolved.”

The “Unavailable” crooner said his decision is based on principle and respect for his fans, not because of poor turnout or ticket sales.

“My team and I have worked tirelessly in preparation, and I am incredibly grateful to the thousands of fans who purchased tickets in anticipation,” he stated.

“This decision is not a reflection of turnout or support; it is a matter of principle and respect for my craft, my fans, and the culture I represent.”

He added that the concert will still go on, but without him.

While assuring fans of other cities on his summer tour, Davido said he remains committed to the ongoing Timeless world tour.

“5ive is still alive! See you guys in Germany, Portugal, Belgium, Canada and the US,” he added. “Africa must be respected.”

Davido’s now-cancelled London show was expected to make him the first African artiste to headline a solo concert at the 62,850-capacity Tottenham stadium.

The singer also provided email addresses of the promoters for fans seeking more information.
