Anambra guber: PDP aspirants shun N40 million Nomination Forms 8 days after party opened sale

The FrontierThe FrontierMarch 4, 2025 1812 Minutes read0

Eight days after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) opened the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms for the Anambra governorship election, no single aspirant has indicated interest to buy the forms pegged at N40 million.

While some PDP members have expressed concern, the development has, however, been linked to the crisis rocking the party in the past few months, reports Daily Independent.

PDP, in its timetable released for the Anambra governorship election, announced that the sale of forms commenced on Monday, February 24, and ends tomorrow, Wednesday, March 5, while the last day for submission is on Friday, March 7, 2025.

Unlike the previous Anambra governorship elections where many aspirants stormed the PDP national headquarters, Abuja, in a bid to outdo one another in the purchase of forms, this year governorship election has defiled logic as the party failed to witness the hustling and bustling associated with the elections.

Recall that the party has been having a serious issue over who is the rightful person to occupy the position of the national secretary.

The position of the national secretary is key to the sale of the governorship forms. Even though the national secretary issue is before the Supreme Court, some PDP members expressed concern that until the issue is settled, it will be difficult for interested aspirants to buy the forms.

While the PDP is still battling with whether it will have a candidate for Anambra governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025, the All Progressives Congress (APC) ended the purchase and submission of the governorship forms on Thursday, last week, and raked in N350 million from seven aspirants at the rate of N50 million for expression of interest and nomination forms.

Reacting to this development, PDP Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, said that party’s primary is still a month plus away, adding that every party is interested in producing the Governor of Anambra State.

Osadolor, who said he will not be surprised if 2027 election is boycotted by major opposition parties because of the attitude of the government, noted that PDP in Anambra is very strong and viable, adding that serious politicians know that only a platform like the PDP has the spread and character to do election in tough climes.

He said: “The PDP in Anambra is very strong and viable. Primary is still a month plus away. No party is not interested in producing the governor of a very important state like Anambra.

“Serious politicians know for a fact that only a platform like the PDP has the spread and character to do elections in tough climes as we are now currently under President Tinubu.

“We are noticing apathy in the process in Anambra already, after the shameful excuse of an election that INEC conducted in Edo and Ondo and the role in Rivers and Osun local government elections.

“Nigerians are further convinced that this government does not mean well for democracy. Nigerians are seeing through the fraud called INEC already. I will not be surprised if 2027 election is boycotted by major opposition parties unless we have electoral reforms.”
