Binance: Past 8 months was living nightmare, says Gambaryan’s wife

Yuki Gambaryan, wife of Tigran Gambaryan, has described the past eight months of her husband’s detention in Nigeria as a “living nightmare.”

In an emotional statement released today, Yuki expressed her relief following her husband’s release after enduring nearly eight months of imprisonment.

Tigran Gambaryan, an American citizen, left Nigeria today to reunite with his family after a court in Abuja dropped the charges against him, reports Vanguard.

The charges had been brought by the Nigerian Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

According to a statement provided to the press, the EFCC prosecutor explained in court that “the government has reviewed the case and, taking into consideration that the second defendant (Mr. Gambaryan) is an employee of the first defendant (Binance Holdings Limited), whose status in the matter holds more weight, and also for critical international and diplomatic reasons, the state seeks to discontinue the case against the second defendant.”

Tigran was released from Kuje prison last night after suffering a significant decline in his health during his detention. He is now set to receive much-needed medical attention.

In her statement, Yuki expressed the toll the ordeal had taken on their family: “It is a huge relief that this day has finally come. The past eight months have been a living nightmare. I wish it hadn’t taken this long for his release, or that his health had not declined so much, but we can now focus on healing as a family.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to the US government for their efforts in securing his release. I also want to thank everyone who helped us throughout this ordeal.

“There were moments I feared this day would never come, but Tigran’s supporters gave me hope and strength. The road ahead for Tigran’s recovery is going to be difficult, and I appreciate us being given the time and space to focus on that. Our children cannot wait to see their dad again.”

Meanwhile, Binance CEO Richard Teng also commented on Tigran’s release: “We are deeply relieved and grateful that Tigran Gambaryan has finally been released after enduring nearly eight months of detention in Nigeria.

“Throughout this difficult period, Tigran has shown immense strength, and we commend his resilience in the face of such severe adversity. We are thankful to everyone who dedicated countless hours to support Tigran’s release.”

Teng reiterated Binance’s commitment to Tigran’s well-being and pledged to ensure he gets the medical care and rest he needs.

He also emphasised Binance’s ongoing collaboration with global regulators to promote compliance and transparency in the digital asset space, adding that Binance is eager to leave this chapter behind and continue building a brighter future for the blockchain industry.

“With its young, tech-savvy population and growing interest in digital finance, Nigeria is well-positioned to harness blockchain technology to address economic and social challenges,” Teng concluded.
