Body of murdered photojournalist found in bush — Police

The FrontierThe FrontierJuly 29, 2025 2011 Minutes read0

The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of the body of photojournalist Ayobami Aiyepeku, allegedly killed by his neighbour, Oluwapelumi Adebayo.

Command spokesperson, SP Williams Aya, told journalists yesterday in Lokoja that Aiyepeku’s decomposing body was discovered Sunday evening near the WAEC office in the Crusher Zone 8 axis of Lokoja, the state capital, reports Daily Trust.

“The corpse has been deposited at the Kogi State Specialist Hospital,” Aya said, adding that a discreet investigation is underway to uncover the full circumstances of the killing.

The late journalist was reportedly murdered on the night of July 22 in an office close to the Government House/GRA area of Lokoja.

Aya appealed to the public, the deceased’s colleagues, and family to provide credible information that could aid the investigation.

Ayobami’s elder brother, Timothy Aiyepeku, urged the federal and Kogi governments to ensure justice is served. “We commend the police for their efforts so far and the media for ensuring this case remains in the public eye,” he said.

Residents reportedly raised an alarm after a foul odour led them to a nearby bush, where the body was discovered.

The Chairman of Lokoja Local Government, Abdullahi Adamu, visited the scene with security agents and confirmed the identity of the deceased.
