•Speaker, Lagos House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda
The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, has said she is still in charge as head of the state legislative house.
She denied rumours suggesting that she has resigned.
Meranda’s media aide, Eromosele Ebhomele, debunked the rumour when The Frontier called to inquire.
“The Speaker has not resigned. We are very much aware of the purported resignation letter in circulation. It’s even two, one is said to be ‘certified true copy’. I’m in the office. The Speaker is in the office. I don’t know where that is coming from,” Ebhomele said in a chat with The Frontier.
The rumours started this morning when an online report suggested that the Speaker had resigned.
A circular dated February 17, 2025, allegedly released by Meranda had also been trending for two days, with the content claiming she had resigned.

However, checks on the letter circulating on social media showed it wasn’t signed by anyone.
Though some critics are saying the ruling party, may be flying a kite to see people’s reactions if it eventually happens, which they say, is most likely to happen.
“Testing the waters! No smoke without fire! Don’t trust anyone on this matter,” a respected retired diplomat told The Frontier anonymously.
The Lagos State Assembly has been rocked with leadership crisis since the former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa was impeached by majority of the lawmakers at the House when he travelled out of the country.
