•Scene of accident

A yet-to-be identified driver of a mini commercial bus popularly known as ‘Korope’ died when he suddenly slumped on the wheel while carrying passengers to their respective destinations in the town.

Meanwhile, no fewer than four others sustained various degrees of injuries as the bus veered off the road, and collided with a parked vehicle in Osogbo, Osun state capital yesterday, reports Nigerian Tribune.

The incident happened at the Ola-iya overhead bridge when the bus veered off the road and collided with a vehicle parked on the roadside resulting in the death of the driver while some passengers sustained severe injuries.

An eyewitness account revealed that the accident involved two vehicles; a mini Intercity bus with registration Reg No: FNN836XA and a Toyota Camry private with LND546FC.

The source, who identified herself as Funmilayo, stated that the accident involved five persons; one male and four females, out of which one dead and four rescued.

She said the rescued ones are presently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital while the lifeless body of the driver had been taken to an hospital morgue.

“One of the passengers attempted to take control of the bus before it collided with a Toyota Camry car parked on the roadside while another passenger jumped out of the moving bus and hit her head on the ground sustaining injuries on her head and eyes.

“I saw people shouting as the vehicle lost control, but a female passenger managed to steer the vehicle down the bridge before it collided with a vehicle parked on the highway.”

Commenting on the incident, the Federal Road Safety Corps’ (FRSC) Sector Commander in Osun, Mr Henry Benamaisia, confirmed the accident and stating that “the driver of the mini bus, fainted and gave up the ghost while driving and another passenger tried to control the vehicle before the eventual hit a park Toyota car.”

The sector commander said that the injured passengers were immediately taken to hospital for medical attention while the corpse of the driver was deposited at the morgue.
