Celebrities have congratulated ace producer Funke Akindele after her latest film, “A Tribe Called Judah” grossed N1 billion in ticket sales.

The movie grossed the N1 billion figure 20 days after its release in cinemas to become the first ever Nollywood movie to achieve the feat, reports Vanguard.

Taking to her Instagram account to react to the milestone, Funke expressed gratitude to God, her fans in Nigeria and Ghana.

She wrote in part, “Thank you LORD!!!; Thank you NIGERIA!!; Thank you GHANA!!”

Many celebrities took to her comment section to rejoice with her on reaching the milestone.

The action-packed comedy stars Funke Akindele, Timini Egbuson, Jide Kene Achufusi, Uzee Usman, Tobi Makinde, and Olumide Oworu.

It follows a family who goes on a heist to rob a luxury furniture store, only to find armed robbers already inside the mall.

A Tribe Called Judah, distributed nationwide by Film One, began its theatrical run on December 15, 2023, breaking the previous record theater ticket figures of Sugar Rush and King, with 231,053 admissions and an astounding N1.02 billion in gross earnings.

Funke Akindele, dubbed “the box office queen,” has previously enjoyed success with films such as “Omo Ghetto: The Saga,” which grossed N636 million in 2020, and “Battle on Buka Street,” which grossed N668 million in 2022.

The billion naira record, formerly held by Hollywood’s “Black Panther 2” at N1.04 billion, is a remarkable achievement for Nigeria’s film industry.
