Court orders Lagos Ohanaeze to maintain status quo

The FrontierThe FrontierApril 3, 2026 651 Minutes read0

A Yaba High Court presided over by Justice Balogun has ordered the warring parties in Lagos State Ohanaeze Ndigbo chapter to maintain the status quo as at March 31, 2026.

It also ruled that all activities regarding election and electioneering and campaigns be stopped immediately until further ruling, reports Daily Independent.

The judge gave ruling on 31 March 2026 in the Suit No YSD\9680GCM\2025 between Chief Sunday Ossai, Chief Robert Obasi and Chief Everest Ozonweke (claimants\applicants and Chief Solomon Ogbonna and Mr. Gabby Oseke (defendants\respondents).

Counsel for the claimants/applicants, Mr. Chino Obiagwu (S.A.N.), informed the Honourable Court that the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction dated 29th July, 2025 was ripe for hearing and would only concede to a further adjournment of the suit if learned counsel for the defendants/respondents conceded to an order for parties to maintain status quo in the suit.Mr L. U. N. Ojukwu, counsel for the defendants/respondents did not oppose to the same, considering the circumstances of him having only three court processes in the suit, the further affidavit in support of the motion on notice dated 29th July, 2025 sworn to on the 24th March 2026, notice of withdrawal of the first claimant from the suit and a second further affidavit in support of the said motion on notice sworn to on the 30th March 2026 and would need time to react to the suit.

Accordingly, the court ordered the “parties in the suit to maintain status quo as at today; 31st March”.

It also directed that the suit be given accelerated hearing and ordered that the adjourned date for hearing shall be April 24, 2026 for at 12noon.

Present at the hearing were many leaders of the Ohanaeze Lagos State, including Prince Ubochi C, Ubochi. Chief Everest Ozonweke, Chief Robert Obasi, Chief Emeka Ugwu and Chief Chris Dikeocha – (Chairman. Others were Chief Kalu Uguru, Chief Mrs Violet Obiorah and Mr Asomugha Johnpaul.
