Delayed exco meetings under Governor Aiyedatiwa fuelling retrogressive governance in Ondo, says PDP

•Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ondo State chapter, has taken a swipe at Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa‘s administration over the government’s first executive council meeting of the year, held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

According to the opposition party, the delay in convening the state’s highest decision-making body, occurring months into the year, exudes what it described as the slow, reactive, and retrogressive governance trajectory that has allegedly subjected the state to economic strain, infrastructural decay, and growing security threats, reports The Guardian.

According to the PDP, in a statement by its Director of Media and Public Communications in the state, Wande Ajayi, a government that is unable to assemble its cabinet for deliberation cannot credibly claim urgency in addressing the pressing needs of its people.

The PDP, however, berated Aiyedatiwa for allegedly failing to present a coherent and actionable security framework.

Meanwhile, a former Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, yesterday, declared his intention to contest the Ondo South senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ajayi, who was the governorship candidate of the PDP in the 2024 gubernatorial election, said that he had consulted widely with critical stakeholders and party leaders, including Aiyedatiwa.

According to him, his decision was not driven by personal gain but a desire to return to the National Assembly to complete unfinished projects he initiated during his tenure in the House of Representatives.
